Theory test changes from 28 September 2009

At the end of September, theory test candidates will have to read a "case study" and answer five questions on it.

The questions will stay the same, but will relate to the case study.

Here is an example of a case study:

"You decide to visit your friend who lives about twenty miles away.
The journey will take you on various roads including country lanes and A roads.
You've been before so you think you know the way. You also have a mobile phone with you, so you will be able to ring for directions if you get lost.
During the journey you go the wrong way, and need to turn round. Later on, you decide to ring your friend to make sure you are still travelling in the right direction
".

Five questions will be asked which relate to this situation, probably things like where to do a U-turn, and when to use a mobile phone on a journey.

Fair enough. My problem is that the theory test changes too often. Books, software and all other study aids become out of date every year. Costing candidates more money. Maybe the theory test should only be updated every five years, unless there are significant alterations to the Highway Code.
