You can get someone to look when you press the brake, or use a reflection when looking in your mirror (something like a shop window).
On test, you will have to ask the examiner to look at the back of the car when you press the brake. You could try asking them to press the brake while you look - but (s)he probably won't!
- The brake lights only work when the ignition key is switched on - in most cars.
- Watch out for other cars when you do this check! Especially if you are parked on the road.
