Show me, tell me question - check the brakes

< Previous question    Introduction    Next question >

"Tell me how you would check that the brakes are working before starting a journey."

There will be occasions when you haven't used your car for a while. Or you might live on a steep hill...

After moving off, as soon as it is safe, brake to see what happens. The brake pedal should feel firm, not spongy or loose, and the car shouldn't pull to one side.

If the brakes don't feel right, dont drive.

If there is air in the brake fluid, the brake will feel spongy. If the car pulls to one side, it usually means one front brake isn't working.
